The International Fly Fishing Film Festival is calling all film markers, amateur and professionals alike, to submit entries to the 2012 International Fly Fishing Festival which will kick off in Calgary, Alberta on January 26th, 2012.

The top submissions will be screened at all Canadian, US & European stops of the 2012 International Fly Fishing Film Festival.  Audiences within each festival city will be asked to vote for their favourite submissions, and the winner of each category will find themselves with some extra cash. Total cash prizes up for grabs in 2012 is $1,500.00 with a matching contribution to Trout Unlimited Canada on behalf of the winning film makers, courtesy of IF4.


Entries are now being accepted within the following 2 categories:

 

Feature Film Category: For films 5 to 25 min in length

Featuring a fly fishing context, including adventure, travel, humour, conservation, profiles, stores and the like.  Please note purely how-to fly fishing films are not being solicited at this time.

Shorts Category: For short films 3 to 5 minutes in length

Featuring a fly-fishing context, including adventure, travel, humour, conservation, profiles, stores and the like.  Please note purely how-to fly fishing films are not being solicited at this time.

 


Submission Requirements:

  • All submissions must be made by their respectful, legal owner(s) / agents who have the right to submit all content within the submission, including royalty-free rights to all footage, graphics & music tracks within the submission.  There are no exceptions to these conditions.
  • All submissions must be received no later than Dec 15th, 2011, including all required materials.
  • Submissions must be in one of the following accepted formats:
  1. HDV 1080i60 NTSC format on a DV tape.
  2. 1080p Apple ProRes 422 encoded Quicktime file uploaded to the IF4 FTP server.
  3. 1080p H.264 Encoded Quicktime or MP4 file uploaded to the IF4 FTP server.
  4. Standard definition (720p30 & 720p24) submissions on a DV tape.  Widescreen (16:9) submissions are preferred.
  • Submissions may contain material previously distributed / aired.
  • Submissions may be made by individuals and production companies, as long as such information is properly indicated within the submission form.
  • Submissions may contain built-in sponsor logos & branding only within the ending credits, which must be no longer than 30 seconds long.
  • Submissions must not contain any illegal / irresponsible or unethical behavior, activities or practices.
  • Submissions must not contain any footage, photographs or other visual reference to non-conservation minded activities or efforts.  This is a conservation minded festival.
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a signed copy of the International Fly Fishing Film Festival license & usage agreement.

Submission Process:

Prepare the following materials for each entry you would like to submit:

  • A signed copy of the International Fly Fishing Festival License & Usage Agreement, available by emailing filmmakers@flyfilmfest.com
  • A short 250 word description of each submission
  • Full credits, contact information & credentials for each film, including music rights ownership.
  • A CD / DVD with any associated logos, promotional JPGs, DVD art, etc…
  • A copy of each submission (either on DV tape or data DVD, or HDD). Each submission must be on its own DV tape or data DVD.
  • An optional trailer of the production (professional category only).  Can be provided on a data DVD, DV tape or via FTP.

Submission Benefits:

Film makers whose submissions are chosen for screening in the 2012 International Fly Fishing Film Festival will be notified via phone & electronically by Jan 10th, 2012. All qualifying film makers will receive the following marketing package for each of their chosen submissions:

  1. Branding & exposure on the official International Fly Fishing Film Festival website.
  2. DVD distribution at official Festival events.
  3. Airing of their film, in part or in whole, on WFN & WFN HD as part of a Fly Nation special episode.
  1. Screening of their film at all official Festival screenings.
  2. Editorial coverage within Fly Fusion Magazine.
  3. DVD Direct to Retail Program: Film makers with marketable product packaging will be given the opportunity to secure a distribution agreement through Bird Marketing Group Ltd. (parent company to Fly Fusion Magazine) in association with the International Fly Fishing Film Festival.
